Synthetic Flesh

The series Synthetic Flesh explores the role of the body in today’s world: between reality and the unreal, between physical presence and digital projection. The body becomes a medium to transfer ideas, memories, and attachments.

At its core, the work reflects on the entanglement of migration and memory: what does it mean to be physically in one place while mentally rooted somewhere else? How do media shape our everyday lives and affect our relation to the body?

Here, the digital body — the avatar — does not have to be seen as something negative. Instead, it opens up new spaces for identity and self-expression. the role of the body in the present — is placed within the tension between inner reality and external representation.

Residual Light

The series began around 2009, when the Iranian regime started sending propaganda messages via SMS. Many people documented these texts with screenshots and shared them on blogs – this is how my own collection began. Over time, the screenshots developed their own aesthetic quality: they became not only fragments of information but also substitutes for communication. For those living far from family and friends, the two-dimensional image often remains the only connection. Messages, protest videos, and visual fragments appear as a residual light of those who are absent but deeply missed.

The series is conceived as an online work and presented exclusively on websites or digital platforms. It remains an ongoing project.
